Thankful Thursday

IMG_2367

There’s so much to be thankful for on this day. I am blessed to have the life I have today and to know that God has surrounded me with love. This year’s Thanksgiving is very special to us because we have our daughter who is now walking around in the kitchen helping mommy cook and watching every step I take in adding spices here and there. How cool is that! She loves to be in the kitchen with mommy and hopefully very soon she’ll start doing dishes and cleaning up after herself haha (Adaku, stop thinking too far she’s only a year old!)

Anyway, today I know a lot of families are doing some food preparation to get ready for dinner. As a born and raised African, my family didn’t know what to do during this time especially when it comes to American dishes like turkey, mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole, cranberry sauce, stuffing, green beans (I can go on and on but I don’t want to make anybody too hungry and you get where I’m going with this, right?)

So what do we do? Thanksgiving, for us, truly means coming together and just enjoying each other’s company no matter what kind of dishes are made. We reminisce on so many things and my mom would usually tell us stories of when we were little, what each of us did differently, or how we gave her a lot trouble and headache growing up. These are funny moments I cherish with my family and I cannot trade it for anything.

This year, things will be a little different because I’m bringing an American dish, which is mac and cheese, that I’m pretty confident, tastes good and I’m sure they would enjoy it. This will be added with other African dishes like jollof rice, plantains, chicken, of course turkey and so on. Another thing we will do differently is that everybody will go around and say what they are thankful for in each other’s lives and, new this year, we’ll by pick a name from the “thankful jar” and that person will be the one to share. I’m going to introduce it later this evening and I’m sure it will be fun!

For those living in the United States, as you spend your Thanksgiving today, don’t forget to tell each other “THANK YOU.” It’s not always about the food and drinks but it’s the reason behind why we come together to be grateful. This might be the only chance you get to say to the people you love how thankful you are to have them in your life. Those of you who don’t live in America, please don’t wait once a year to tell someone how much you appreciate them.

I am very thankful to each of you who have supported me throughout this journey and, without your support, I wouldn’t be writing this and sending this out on Thanksgiving Day. Thank you again and God bless!

Happy Thanksgiving! #adakuinspires

Let’s Get Pampered!

What would you do if you get a message from a friend saying that they would like to give you a free facial? Would you say, “oh no this is a scam”or would you be like me and say “Heck yes! Let’s do this and what’s your schedule like?” Well, this mutual friend of mine reached out to me because she is a Mary Kay consultant and is heading on the roadmap to becoming a director. One of the incentives I believe is to give as many people free facials and hope that somebody would support you but it’s not required. It would be obvious to say I didn’t oblige to the offer because of the free facial. However, I was drawn to her enthusiastic and entrepreneurial spirit which was what made me to say “yes” and I couldn’t wait to meet her in person.

The cool thing about this whole experience was that I could invite some friends to this experience. I took advantage of this and invited some good friends who were available during the time we scheduled. We had a blast! I made some spicy food to go with the occasion and we just enjoyed the moment. It was a room filled with joy and positivity and that’s what I love to surround myself with. This was an awesome experience that I would not forget and it has drawn us closer as friends.

I encourage you to take time if you can to enjoy the simple things in life. For me, I am drawn to people who are adventurous and aren’t afraid to say yes in trying new things. Surround yourself with positive people. People that bring out your smiles, your craziness, and people that love you for you. What have you done recently for yourself or even with yourself that made you feel pampered? Leave comments below and let’s chat. I will end this blog here and hope to catch you in my next one here at Adaku Inspires! Cheers xx

This week has been so phenomenal that words can’t express how I feel. My church celebrated their 34th anniversary and it was beyond great. Amazing speakers came, preached a good word, and prophesied to us. They reminded us of how grateful we should be for sitting under the anointing of Bishop Bart Pierce who is our senior pastor. Some of our fellowship pastors shared heartfelt stories that moved me to tears. The millennials were prayed for and sent forth to be bold in their walk with God. One of the nights, we couldn’t even move after God showed up in the room and messed us all up. Ladies, if you would have had your makeup fully done, that service would have jacked everything up including your mascara! LOL! It was that kind of a night.

I can’t fully soak in everything but I know that God showed up and my life was changed. Not just that, but my mind in general is in a complete focus because I got a clear revelation of what I should be doing. My purpose was made clear and only God can do such a thing. I am and will be forever grateful for my church and our senior pastor because of the anointing that constantly flows in the church. To me, that’s my family and I’m 100% all in to see what God is about to do. I am forever grateful for the support of my husband, my friends at church, the worship team singing every night with smiles, all the people who served in the nursery putting up with our kids and didn’t complain about missing what’s going on in the sanctuary. My hat goes out to you. I am forever grateful for the leaders we have at my church including the elders and pastors. Basically everyone who served to make this convention a successful one, all I want to say is THANK YOU. May God continue to bless you, renew your strength, pour back into what you put out, and may He continue to take you from glory to glory to glory.
Have a blessed day!

Thankful Thursday

Hello New Month! Who’s excited with me? I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to having a great month. Last month was very challenging for me in so many aspects but one thing for sure is that I have a God whom I trust when things aren’t going the right way. I am also very grateful for the support team I have. We pray together, cry together, share so many ideas together, laugh together while tears are flowing down our cheeks, and we assure each other that we have each other’s back. So I am forever grateful for those friendships in my life!

I love this beautiful shot that Bethany took recently, which I wasn’t even posing for when she took this shot. Simple things like this makes me appreciate this girl who is like a sister to me. She is so passionate at what she does and I love that about her. So, if you’re looking for a photographer, please contact her on Instagram @bethanyjphotography or her website which is https://bethanyjphotography.wixsite.com/bethanyjphotography and she’ll get you set up.

With all that being said, I am excited about this month because I’m looking ahead for greater things to happen in my life. Sometimes I have to be repetitive in my declarations for it to sink in and that’s why I’m standing strong irrespective of what’s happening around me. We all go through things in life and it’s all about how you handle your own circumstances. Nobody is perfect and I thank God for using me to impact His kingdom. I know I am going into a transition that is bigger and wider than my dreams and I just can’t wait to see it all come together. The word for me is FOCUS. I am definitely holding on to this word and I hope you do the same.
Hopefully this encourages someone out there today because last month is gone…the past is gone. Look into the future and hold on to the promises that God has declared over your life.

Keep pushing, keep striving, and stay positive at all times if you can. God bless
