Thankful Thursday

Can we all agree that this might be the last “Thankful Thursday” I’m writing while pregnant before baby #2 makes her debut? Fingers crossed that my next “Thankful Thursday” will be about baby #2 making her debut. So you ask…what’s Adaku been up to these days while waiting for baby? Well, I’m glad you asked 🙂 It’s been a lot of cleaning and organizing of both my toddlers clothes and new baby clothes. I must say that it has been very therapeutic just going through old clothes and bringing out some of the things I had put away when I had our first child. It’s like “here we go again” for the second time. I know that mothers out there can relate.

Sometimes, while I’m organizing, Kizzy is scattering something else! I know she’s being a kid, but gosh! Who has time to be folding what you already did all over again?! I still have mad love for her no matter what. It’s amazing how you can have a heart to love your first child and still continue to extend that love to your second. We just can’t wait to meet our little princess. By the way, if you haven’t watched my cleaning video, check it out by clicking the video clip below.

Another way I’m getting myself ready for our baby girl is by doing a mental detoxification. This is where I do less of social media and focus my mind on other things like reading books. I picked up reading the book I co-authored last year again to get inspiration from other authors in the book and it’s been an amazing read. If you’re looking for inspiring stories that make you say “ ahhh! You’re telling my story” then you need a copy of this book.

Another book I’m excited to read while I wait is a book hubby just got called “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind.” Look, I don’t know about you, but I know that, one day, I’ll be a millionaire but I also know it doesn’t just happen. Hence the reason why, as a business woman, I want to know all it takes to get me there. This book is on Amazon as well so grab a copy and let’s read together. Hubby pushes me to read more and I’m thankful for that because we both want to keep growing spiritually, financially, etc but to do that we have to read more. Thanks to our senior pastor Bishop Bart Pierce who has been saying to us that “Leaders are Readers!”

I am just thankful to have people who push and motivate me even when I’m pregnant. Success starts from your mind. Don’t limit yourself and you need to stop giving excuses as to why you can’t. Your best days are ahead of you, not behind, so get up and stay motivated!

Thanks again for following me on this wonderful journey and I’ll catch you in my next one 🙂

So here it goes…

Surprise!!! As hubby drove in to his parents house, I was welcomed with a BIG SURPRISE from all my loved one. In case you’re wondering, I had a surprise baby shower this past weekend and it was nothing but AMAZING. I was so speechless that, by the time I went across the party area to greet everyone, tears were rolling down my cheeks. It was impeccable. I had no slightest idea how hubby pulled it off without me finding out especially, when I try to be like a private investigator in putting two and two together 🙂 Hubby even bought a whole outfit for me to change into and he had a friend at standby ready to do my makeup. Can you believe that?

There was joy and laughter in the atmosphere as people were walking by. The weather was extremely perfect just for that day because, the next day, we had crappy weather. Lots and lots of food was available for all to eat. They even had a host and DJ. The event was well coordinated. Everyone worked hand in hand to make it successful and it was such a beautiful surprise shower. Obviously, you can tell I was in shock and that’s why I waited until today to get my thoughts together and say a big THANK YOU.

To all of you who worked extremely hard to make this happen, this blog is for you. THANK YOU so much for keeping it as a secret even though it’s no longer a secret and I know right now you are free 🙂
To Victoria, Dana, Donna, Daniela, Julie, Kristin, Darlene, Bethany and Lisa a HUGE THANK YOU for just being your loving, giving selves. You made this day an unforgettable one!

To my one and only hubby: you know I can sit here and write a book but I’ll make it short this time 🙂 THANK YOU so much babe for being the best husband any woman could ask for. You amaze me in so many ways that I can’t explain. I have no doubt that you will continue to exude the love you have for Kizzy and I to baby #2. You are so AMAZING and I love you dearly.

To my two lovely moms who contributed in great ways, I truly appreciate you and pray that God will replenish your pockets. To my family and friends who made it and those who weren’t able to make it, thank you for all the gifts. May God bless each and every one of you.

Thankful Thursday

I recently visited Notre Dame of Maryland University where, for some of you that don’t know, I graduated from. I had a lunch date with one of my professors who happened to be my mentor. We had a lot to catch up on and talked about potential future opportunities for me at the school which I’m very excited about. Larry was my Finance teacher and has now become not just my mentor but a family friend. He has attended important events that has happened in my life since after college including attending my wedding. Our families love each other and it’s a blessing to have Larry as a mentor. Below is a picture we  recently took during my visit.

I also caught up with Dr. Debbie Calhoun who was my Business Management professor in college. She was called “Professor Calhoun” then and now has not only gotten her doctorate degree but has been promoted to become the Chair and Professor of Business and Economics Department at Notre Dame of Maryland University.

I am extremely thankful for these two teachers in my life today. I wouldn’t have been saying this years ago when I was in their classes because they made you work hard to pass their tests. But it’s funny how your perspective changes as you get older and remember the lessons both in school as well as the character lessons your teachers teach that you later apply in life. I’m a Business Management graduate from this University and some of the decisions I’m taking at the moment to better my future are the ones they taught me and I’m forever grateful. It’s safe to say that all those years of hard work is paying off. There’s a lot of potential opportunities for me at the school and I am excited to be a part of it. Watch out for more updates in the near future (sorry I can’t give too much away).

Do you have one of these examples in your life today? If so, was it a high school or college professor? I would love to hear some thoughts in the comment section below. Thanks again for your support and I’ll catch you in my next one

Is it Baby or Birthing Season?

Today, I am so thankful to have close friends who are giving birth around the same time as me. My church is having an outpouring of babies and there couldn’t have been any better timing. The nursery is going to be flooded with babies close in age. One was born about two months ago,

(Aaron Joseph) and another was born yesterday (Isaac Charles).76541D9E-C0D8-481D-8321-6855D90CC5DEIn about two more weeks, another one will be born, then it’s me : )

There are also others down the line towards the ending of Summer/Early Fall season but, for now, this is the rush hour we’re experiencing.

Why am I bringing this up? New generations are being born, meaning it’s a birthing season. In the physical, it’s exciting to see this bundle of joy that has been inside you for nine months and, for some people, those nine months could be very rough, especially the pushing process. In the spiritual, it’s an outpouring of blessings from above. God is allowing us to push out our own blessings because the time has come. Now is the time. Be thankful for this moment, this season of new birth. Spiritually speaking also, this birthing season could be a birth of financial growth for you. It can also be promotion, healing, you name it. Whatever it is, claim it and be thankful that this is the year your blessings will not pass you by.

I’m here to encourage you to continue to be in expectancy. God is not finished with you. He’s just getting started. I love the statement that “your latter will be greater than the former.” God’s plan is not to take you back but to propel you forward if you stay in His Will. Stay blessed and be inspired.
